Description
PerkinElmer EnSpire is a compact, configurable multimode microplate reader for absorbance, fluorescence intensity (top/bottom), ultra-sensitive luminescence, and optional AlphaScreen/AlphaLISA and Corning Epic label-free detection. It includes an integrated PC and software; the unit in the has an external monitor and a front plate-stacker module for unattended runs. Designed for multi-user labs, 6- to 384-well plates, and research/drug-discovery assays.

Detection modes (configurable) — Filter and/or quad-monochromator absorbance; fluorescence intensity (top and optional bottom); glow/flash ultra-sensitive luminescence; optional high-power laser Alpha technology; optional Epic optical-biosensor label-free. TRF available on some configs.
Wavelength / sensitivity (typical) — FI monochromator ~230–850 nm (0.1 nm steps, ~5 nm bandwidth); fluorescein <1 fmol/well (96/384). Absorbance ~230–1000 nm, 0–4 OD. Luminescence ATP glow <10 pM (96/384). Alpha kinase-type assays down to ~100 amol (config-dependent).
Plates and throughput — 6-, 12-, 24-, 48-, 96-, and 384-well. Typical 96-well times ~30–60 s depending on mode (faster “on-the-fly” modes available). Shaking; optional temperature control ambient +3 °C to 65 °C. Four-side plate barcode reading.
Built-in PC and software — Integrated computer (historically Windows Vista/7-class: Core 2 Duo-class CPU, ~4 GB RAM, ~80 GB HDD) plus glove-friendly touchscreen and/or external monitor/keyboard as shown. Onboard analysis (curve fits, IC50, Z′, CV, ratios), Excel/text export, USB/network. Optional 21 CFR Part 11 support. Pre-coded protocols and start wizard.
Stacker (visible on this unit) — Optional 20- or 50-plate magazines; restacking for kinetics. Magazines compatible with PlateStak-style handlers. Front-loading carrier also used without the stacker.
Optional dispenser — Dual injectors, 1–475 µL/stroke (0.5 µL increments), 6- to 384-well; heated/stirred reagent bottles for flash luminescence and kinetics.
Optics / filters — Xenon flash lamp for FI/Abs; eight barcode-identified filter positions on filter-based configs. Adjustable focus height.
Physical / power — Benchtop base ~20 × 20 × 16 in, ~80 lb without stacker/monitor (stacker adds bulk). 110–240 V, 50/60 Hz, ~150–300 VA. Filter wheel accessible from the side.
