Invitrogen Countess II Cell Counter

Invitrogen Countess II (Cat. AMQAX1000) is a compact benchtop automated cell counter that uses brightfield imaging, autofocus, and image analysis to count cells and measure viability with trypan blue. Mix 10 µL sample with 10 µL stain, load a disposable dual-chamber slide, and get count, viability, and size data in about 10–15 seconds. The FL version adds two EVOS LED fluorescence channels.

Key Features / Specifications

Sample range — Concentration 1 × 10⁴ to 1 × 10⁷ cells/mL (optimal ~1 × 10⁵–4 × 10⁶). Cell size 7–60 µm for viability; particles down to ~4 µm can be counted. 10 µL per chamber.
Speed and optics — Typical count ~10–15 s. Brightfield only on Countess II; 5 MP camera, 2.5× optical magnification (~55× on-screen). Autofocus with optional manual tweak. 7-inch capacitive touchscreen.
Outputs — Live/dead/total counts, % viability, average cell size, and images. Results and images save to USB (instrument includes a USB drive). User profiles can be stored.
Consumables — Disposable PMMA Countess chamber slides (two 10 µL chambers per slide). Countess II FL also accepts reusable glass slides. LED illumination (long life).
Physical / electrical — About 9 × 5.5 × 9 in (23 × 14 × 23 cm), ~8 lb (3.6 kg). 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz via 12 VDC 2 A adapter. Indoor use, ~4–32 °C. Research-use-only instrument.
